The Portkeys HS8 is a powerful 8-inch director’s monitor with high brightness and both HDMI and HD-SDI video inputs and outputs. It offers a maximum brightness of 1100 cd/m2, supports DCI-4K video signals up to 60p, and includes a rotating Sony NP-F dummy battery with power pass-through for a wireless video receiver.
Robust 8-inch film camera monitor for professional use
The Portkeys HS8 is an 8-inch director’s monitor with unique features that make it an essential tool for filmmakers and video production professionals. Designed for tough shooting conditions, the HS8 has a strong aluminium case with a removable and replaceable screen protector. Its dimensions are 208 × 133.7 × 50.5 mm and it weighs only 675 g, making it compact and easy to use together with the camera team, focus puller, director or client.
1100 nits bright daylight-viewable display with accurate colours
The HS8 has a large 8-inch panel with a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels. The display offers a maximum brightness of 1100 cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 1000:1, making it ideal for all shooting situations — from dark studios to bright outdoor daylight. The 10-bit panel (8+2 FRC) delivers accurate colours without banding and with high detail.
Professional SDI/HDMI inputs and outputs for flexible connections
All video and power ports are located at the bottom of the monitor and are recessed to protect the connectors and avoid damage. The Portkeys HS8 is very versatile and includes all video ports expected from a professional monitor: one 4K DCI 60p HDMI input and one 3G-SDI 1080P60 input. It also features one HDMI output and one 3G-SDI output, both supporting up to 1080P60. Cross-conversion from HDMI input to SDI output is possible. You can also output a 3D-LUT via the SDI and HDMI outputs for consistent monitoring.
Audio and power input options
The bottom of the Portkeys HS8 offers a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a USB-A port for future firmware updates and loading custom LUTs. There is also a 7–20 V DC input with a lockable 5.5 × 2.1 mm connector for powering the monitor with a V-Mount/Gold-Mount battery using the included D-TAP to screw-in DC cable.
Dual battery plates with hot-swap function
On the back of the monitor there is a battery plate for two Sony NP-F batteries with hot-swap function. With a maximum power consumption of 20 W, two Sony NP-F970 batteries can power the monitor for almost five hours. (Batteries sold separately)
Innovative power pass-through for wireless video receivers
Another highlight is the removable and rotatable Sony NP-F dummy battery. Thanks to the special Portkeys design with an integrated NP-F dummy battery plate and power pass-through (8 V/10 W), you can mount and power a wireless video receiver directly on the back of the HS8. The dummy battery rotates 360° tool-free using the large yellow knob.
Mounting flexibility for film sets
The back of the monitor also offers VESA-100×100 mounting points. With an optional monitor mount, the HS8 can be attached to a light stand or C-stand.
User control and operating system
On the top of the monitor you will find four custom buttons for quick access to monitoring tools, a power switch and a separate input button to switch between HDMI and SDI. A menu button with dual function and a scroll wheel help you navigate the specially developed menu and operating system. The large 8-inch screen allows several monitoring tools to be displayed at the same time.
Flexible mounting options for the HS8 monitor
A professional director’s monitor needs to be flexible and versatile, just like the HS8 with its four 1/4”-20 threads and positioning pins on each side. These mounting points allow you to attach the monitor anywhere: on a tripod, camera rig or table stand. Side handles can also be mounted directly.
